Our activists at seminar on NRI Marriages Oct13th,2006

Dear Friends, Some fantastic news to share.
Several members from Delhi attended the Anu Peshawaria seminar at India International center including some lady volunteers as well.
we talked to retired Justice Usha Mehra ( chief speaker on NRI marriages)and presented the other side of the coin. After listening to them, she toned down her anti- men rheoteric. In the Q&A, one of our lady volunteers, raised several thought provoking questions. The speakers tried to brush aside her concerns but she firmly stood her ground and blasted the speakers for being anti-men. Eventually, Anu Peshawaria as well as other panel members were rendered speechless. From what I hear, there was an awkward moment of silence and after that they hastily declared lunch !! :))
That our group, specially the ladies made an impact was evident. Atleast 10 people came and talked to our volunteers after that. One reporter approached them and took an on the spot interview of one our other lady volunteer. Another reporter from Punjab Kesri told that she would like to do a series of interviews on this subject. This is being followed up on. A retired HC judge approached our volunteers and offered to help and advise. This is also being followed up on.
Mrs sandhya shukla, director social services at the MOIA and Prof Laxmi Jhambolkar from ISIL( the premier instituite dealing with International law in India were present and we interacted with them.
They want to enforce Indian law in foriegn countries if marriage was solemnised in India, bring extradiction treaties in force, make grooms sign affidavits about their particulars in foriegn countries , are among some of their ideas.
to bring change, participation is the key. participation by men is almost nil so no wonder women get what they want very easily

We have decided to have major protest at Jantar mantar on Human Rights day 10 dec 2006, when we will present this petition to addressees. We aim to collect about 500 people - victims and supporters.
Regular protest has been suspanded since August due to various reasons including hot weather, time constraints etc. and a bigger protest or continuing protest may be more effective, compared to several small ones.

Bi monthly protest suspanded since August

The protest at Jantar Mantar twice a month was continued without break from 10 dec 2005 to August 2nd 2006.
We have had to suspand it due to various reasons including hot weather. We will resume it soon. In the meantime several of our members have recd press and TV coverage. FIR got registered against one 498a woman who was not allowing her husband to live in his own house using various illegal tactics for last 4 yrs. The man recently started living in the house, which is in his own name even before marriage. DCP vigilance is holding inquiry into another similar case where 498a woman is occupying the whole house.

PROTEST ON 15th April

The other huge protests from last time are still there.Plus there was another huge one by BJP about demolitions. So we couldnt even find a decent place but protest was continued.
After protest we continued our political campaign. We went to Supreme Court and started the procedure to meet The Chief justice of India. We also found out about PIL and one will be submitted next week. A group of 9 people also went to see the Law Minister. He met us for few mins(without appointment) as he was leaving for important meeting. Praveen walia & Sushil Sharma will be meeting him again by appointment this week.
We must start huge protest and lauching of indefinite hunger strike before parliament re opens around 10th may.

PROTEST ON 1st April

We decided to start early for convenience of News channels but enough members could not make it on time. So we had to postpone for the 15th.
We also got swallowed by hundreds of other protesters -- Narmada Bachao and Bhopal gas tragedy victims( Both are there for last few days 24 hrs a day). They even took our regular spot.
We stayed there till 4 pm and planned next protest to be big one including burning effigy and launching hunger strike.
We are now enlarging our scope and inviting everyone who is vicitm of law and the corrupt sysytem.
Mr sushil Kumar Sharma suggested and has studied the CrPC amendement act 46 of 1983, by virtue of which 498a came into existence. 498a was meant to be used only in dowry death cases, not by living women.

PROTEST ON 18TH MARCH -498a wouldn't last long now!

Dainik Jagran coverage on 19th March 06 (pdf file)

We started as usual at 12 pm. "Dainik Jagran" was there and took some interviews.
Somewhat Happy events in Mr. Gilani's life story - He was implicated in false case and his in-laws had even grabbed his house rendering him homeless. He is a CA and at one time he was preparing for IAS exam.In his quest for justice he wrote everywhere you can imagine including UNO.The President of India ordered 13 times to get him justice and his house back, but nothing happened on the ground. So he took a novel decision--- he sent "Lanatnama" to the President and announced that he is giving up Indian Citizenship and will go to Australia and than approach International Court. Last week Australian delegation was here. They met him and approved his migration to Australia alongwith $25000/- to help him.He got some TV coverage and we will get him more coverage.

Mr. Sushil Sharma was present and we discussed a new PIL to be filed soon.
After 4 pm we embarked on our political campaign and hit the Congress office where we met several important people in Congress party, including--
Mr Anil Shastri - son of Sh Lal Bahadur Shastri
Mr Oscar Fernandes - veteran congressman, present Union Minister and also media advisor for Mrs Sonia Gandhi.
Capt. R.K. Gupta-- Grandson of Lala Lajpat Rai
Appointment with Home Minister Sh. Shivraj Patil very soon and with Mrs Sonia Gandhi in very near future.
We finished 930pm -a long & satisfying day!
